Fecal / Stool Checks

A fecal or a stool check is a microscopic exam of a pets feces.  The feces is mixed with a salt solution and allowed to sit for several minutes or centrifuged which will cause parasite eggs to float to the top of the solution where they can be trapped on a microscope slide.  Then the slide is examined under different amounts of magnification to view if parasite eggs are seen.  If seen then it is an obvious positive for a diagnosis, however, it not seen it does NOT confirm a negative for infestation.
